Last June, Michal broke down while riding his bike and scraped himself. “In four days, my right leg was swollen and I was sick. In the evening, my dad took me to the emergency room in Pardubice. I had septic shock… The last thing I remember is texting my wife that morning that I was going to the gym,” electrician Michal describes the moments when he fought for his life. At that time, his kidneys were failing, his liver was failing, and his circulation was beginning to collapse. In the hospital, they tried to save his leg, but the infection was strong and even treatment with targeted antibiotics did not work.

The lungs were collapsing

The day after Michal’s 41st birthday, it was therefore decided… The leg with the infection must go. The amputation took place, but even then it was still not won. A few days later another serious complication occurred! “My lungs collapsed, they began to fill with blood. They transferred me to the ARO FN Hradec Králové and connected me to extracorporeal circulation,” Michal describes. The whole time he was in artificial sleep, doctors told his family to prepare for the worst. In the end, Michal recovered from everything, according to the doctors, it is a miracle that he survived.

“I started to pull myself together, gain strength, learn to breathe, practice motor skills, remember what actually happened, learn to live without a leg. After the stump healed, rehabilitation began and then the transfer to Hamza’s hospital in Košumberek.” describes the next weeks of Michal, whose leg was replaced by a prosthesis.

Three quarters of a year have passed since the accident, but Michal is still unable to function normally. “He’s out of breath, he’s put on a lot of weight after the medication, which isn’t helping. My husband can’t take it anymore at home, but in this condition he can’t even work part-time as an electrician.” describes Petra’s wife.

Negotiations at the authorities are also very complicated. “Everything is a long elbow. For example, only last week my husband received a ZTP card, which has been valid since last September! But he hasn’t been able to use it yet,” Mrs. Petra is angry.

Ruslana Danilkinova voluntarily went to the front. Losing her leg didn't stop her.

A bionic prosthesis will help

Currently, Michal moves with the help of a normal prosthesis, but he would very much like to get a bionic prosthesis. “An ordinary prosthesis does not allow me to devote myself so much to helping my family and possibly start working as an electrician again. Walking and various activities such as stairs are quite physically demanding,” explains Michal, whose new Otto Bock C-LEG prosthesis is to be helped by a collection on the charity platform Donio. “We live in a family house with a garden, which I have to take care of. I still have my parents, whom I will also take care of one day. And I would also like to go back to work.” adds dad Michal.
