Speakers in the discussion meeting said that most pregnant mothers still give birth at home in the remote areas of the country. They unsafely take the help of unskilled service providers. So the life of mother and child is at risk. To change this situation, it is necessary to increase the number of skilled midwives. In addition, the program discussed the development of midwifery education and services in Bangladesh in the last decade and the success of midwives in ensuring safe maternal and newborn emergency services.

Rehena Khatun, principal of Amjad Khan Chowdhury Nursing College, said that the role of midwifery nurses in the climate crisis is immense. For that purpose, the midwifery students of our college are regularly imparted hands-on training to ensure safe maternity and neonatal emergency care for expectant mothers. Qualified teachers have been appointed in our educational institution to develop skilled midwives. He expressed hope that the midwives of Bangladesh will be able to play a significant role in achieving Bangladesh’s goals for sustainable development by 2030.
