The government approved the construction of a new hospital in Be’er Sheva

The government approved today (Sunday) the decision that the planning for the construction and operation of the new hospital in Be’er Sheva will be in a joint model for the United and National Health Funds, where the ownership of the hospital will be the health funds, and the operation through the Sheba Hospital.

The new hospital, which should be opened by 2028, will eventually include about 600 beds and will include the variety of services that will be integrated into the hospitalization and community services in the south of the country.

This decision comes at the end of strenuous staff work led by the Director General of the Ministry of Health Moshe Bar Siman Tov and the Director General of the Ministry of Finance Shlomi Heisler, in which the Ministry of Health, the Budget Division, the Accountant General and the Treasury Commissioner of Salaries took part.

Uriel Bosso, Minister of Health: “Today is a historic day for the State of Israel and the Israeli health system. This is a groundbreaking decision that will bring about a significant change in the health system in general and in the Negev region in particular. The government’s decision states that for the first time in the history of the health system – the hospital will be jointly owned by the two health funds. Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich: “At the cabinet meeting, we approved the construction of the additional hospital in Be’er Sheva that will respond to the critical medical needs in the south of the country and help reduce the gaps between the periphery and the center. This hospital will be built in cooperation between the Sheba Hospital – Tel Hashomer and the United and National Health Funds It will create positive competition in the south and will be a step that will greatly strengthen the medical services in Be’er Sheva. This is great news for Be’er Sheva and all the residents of the Negev.”
