Digital transformation and SMEs

Digital transformation has become a key element for small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) to gain a competitive advantage in the market. This not only implies the adoption of new technologies, but also a renewal in the way of operating and in the business mentality.

Digital Transformation refers to the process of integrating digital technology into all aspects of a company, fundamentally changing the way it operates and delivers value to its customers. It goes beyond simply digitizing existing processes, involving a cultural change that allows organizations to experiment and adapt quickly to new market demands. It aims to simplify and streamline business processes, promote information analysis and collaborative work; Maintain a proactive and close relationship with customers, and generate positive experiences.

The first study carried out by the MYPES Observatory of the Salvadoran Foundation for Comprehensive Support (FUSAI), called “The current state of the MYPE 2023, the other side of the economy”, estimates that by 2022 there were 833,164 economic units in the country, that is, micro and small businesses, of which it is considered that 60% belong to women, while 40% to men. It also calculates that approximately two-thirds of the country’s total employed population works in the informal sector, which is mainly made up of MYPES and indicates that of the total workers in micro and small businesses, 45.8% are men and 54.2% are women.
