At these locations, the Road Department also considers changing the dividing line between the driving lane and the emergency stop lane from a solid line to a dashed line so that vehicles can enter when needed.
Explaining this more clearly, the leader of the Traffic Infrastructure Maintenance Management Department said that when the vehicle behind passes on the left and encroaches on the opposite road, the vehicle in front needs to move to the right to create space. Let the car behind pass. The vehicle in front moving to the right means pulling into the emergency stop lane.
This person noted that the emergency stopping lane will only be used for vehicles in front to pull over to give way to vehicles behind. There is no way for the vehicle behind to overtake by passing through the emergency stop lane because passing on the right is against traffic rules.
Cam Lo – La Son Expressway is currently designed with the shoulder (emergency stopping strip) having the same elevation and pavement structure as the road. This makes it easier for vehicles to change lanes between the driving lane and the emergency stop lane. On some other highways, emergency stopping lanes are often designed lower and have different structures.
