The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Huseyn Amir-Abdullahian within the framework of his participation in the extraordinary meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
This was reported to Publika.az by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan.
During the meeting, bilateral and regional issues, as well as the current situation in the region, were discussed between the two countries.
The Iranian minister once again conveyed his congratulations on the successful outcome of the presidential elections held in our country and the re-election of President Ilham Aliyev to this high office. He emphasized that these elections are especially significant because they are held in all territories of Azerbaijan.
The ministers also exchanged views on steps to restore the work of our embassy after the court verdict against the person who committed the terrorist attack on the Embassy of Azerbaijan.
The parties discussed plans for the expansion of high-level contacts, the importance of the work of the Intergovernmental Joint Economic Cooperation Commission between Azerbaijan and Iran, the development and expansion of transport and communication corridors in the region.
J. Bayramov noted that the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP-29), which will be held in our country this year, creates additional opportunities for cooperation.
The minister informed the other party about the current regional situation, as well as the current situation and prospects of the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
It was emphasized during the meeting that Armenia’s involvement of third parties that do not serve peace and stability in the region, and efforts to arm Armenia by some states are a threat to the peace process. At the meeting, views were also exchanged on other bilateral and regional issues on the current cooperation agenda between the two countries.
