Macron’s aspirations with abortion worldwide

“Inscribing guaranteed freedom in the Constitution may have been less necessary a few years ago, but now, the setbacks we experience in our time have made it a necessity”said Macron, who without naming any specific case assured that this right is in danger “in the largest democracies and in some European neighbors.”

He responded thus to far-right leader Marine Le Penwho although voted in favor of registering abortion in the Constitution, assured that it was not necessary because in France that right is not threatened.

The French president launched this initiative after the United States Supreme Court withdrew its federal umbrella for abortion and in France cases of Poland, Hungary or, more recently, Javier Milei’s Argentina as examples of countries where that right is in danger.

Macron promised to lead “a universal movement” starting in Europe where “reactionary forces attack the rights of women before attacking those of minorities.”

“I wish to inscribe this right in the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union,” Macron assured, which raised applause from the attendeesmany of them deputies from the left, who have announced a parliamentary initiative in this regard.

On the eve of the European elections in June, Macron, whose party is not leading in the polls, stated that “Rights in Europe are not acquired and everything has to be defended.”

But she also noted that her country wants to take this fight “to all women who see their rights threatened because, she noted, “the progress of women’s rights is the progress of human rights.”
