Inhuman practices in Moa Cemetery

MADRID, Spain.- The Moa Cemetery, located in the province of Holguín, has been the subject of complaints and consternation due to the unfortunate situation it faces. A video recorded by a collaborator of CubaNet, who came to visit his grandfather’s remains, reveals a desolate panorama.

The video shows open graves, scattering of garbage both in the surroundings and inside the vaults, and a total lack of respect towards the deceased and their families.

A cemetery worker explained to the employee of CubaNet that during the COVID-19 pandemic, burial practices were chaotic and disrespectful. People were buried “however they wanted,” in his own words.

“Here came 15, 20 COVID deaths and we buried them at night, several in the same bag, or in any vault, the first one there was space,” says the gravedigger.

Now, cemetery authorities are opening the vaults and exhuming the remains, without notifying relatives. The remains are mixed up, without any type of identification, making it impossible for families to find their loved ones.

“I’m not going to find it. I’m going to discuss it, but they’re not going to find it,” says the witness and blames the management of the Comunales company.

The lack of organization and respect for funeral protocols generates indignation and helplessness among family members seeking to honor the memory of their loved ones.

In marked contrast to this panorama, in another wing of the cemetery is the pantheon of those who fell for the defense, which is also shown and described as “immaculate.”
