In 2023, Kyiv sent military personnel to Sudan to participate in the conflict between the Sudanese armed forces and the Rapid Reaction Force (RRF) amid heavy casualties and a shortage of frontline manpower.
Publika.az “Wall Street Journal” wrote about it. It is reported that Sudan’s Transitional Sovereign Council and the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, Abdulfattah al-Burhan, appealed to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for help.
“The leader of Ukraine immediately agreed to help, because Abdulfattah al-Burhan secretly provided weapons to the Ukrainian side after the war started,” the author of the publication shared the details. The publication reports that a few weeks after the appeal, in mid-August, Ukrainian special forces arrived in Sudan and began military operations to remove rebel forces from the capital.
It was reported that Kirill Budanov, head of the General Intelligence Department of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, commented on the information in an interview with the publication: “They (Russia) have units in different parts of the world, and we sometimes try to strike them there.”
