For the first time in a long time, Iraq has created two military bases on its border with Turkey, a process that is carried out in coordination with Ankara. “Hürriyet” newspaper informs about it.
“After the Persian Gulf War, Iraq created two military bases, agreeing with Turkey on the issue of technical support,” the publication writes.
The newspaper also reported on the detailed preparation of a military build-up operation by the Turkish armed forces in northern Iraq against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which is banned in the country.
The armed conflict with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party in Turkey began in 1984 and resumed in 2015. There are PKK bases in northern Iraq, against which the Turkish armed forces are conducting air and ground operations. The presence of Turkish troops in the Zlikan camp, northeast of Mosul, has been a point of contention between Baghdad and Ankara, justifying the deployment of Turkish units to fight the PKK.
