Today, December 31, is the Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis.
Publika.az reports that this holiday plays an important role in the creation of bonds of solidarity among Azerbaijanis living in different countries of the world.
Of course, unity and solidarity have always been observed among Azerbaijanis. Celebrating this holiday has already become a necessity and moral need for Azerbaijanis all over the world.
The foundation of the Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis was laid at the end of December 1989 during the collapse of the borders (USSR-Iranian borders) in Nakhchivan. The border posts between North and South Azerbaijan were destroyed. Meanwhile, a conference of Turkic-speaking peoples was held in Istanbul. The conference also decided to celebrate the solidarity of Azerbaijanis of the world. On December 16, 1991, Heydar Aliyev, the national leader of the Azerbaijani people and the chairman of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic at that time, declared December 31 as the Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis, taking into account the importance of creating the unity of the world’s Azerbaijanis. Thus, December 31, which is dear to all Azerbaijanis – the Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis, is celebrated. Azerbaijanis are proud of this day and celebrate it with pride.
Day of Solidarity of Azerbaijanis of the World is celebrated as a holiday by Azerbaijanis living in all countries of the world. Today is one of the most important and significant holidays for the Azerbaijani diaspora. The Day of Solidarity of Azerbaijanis of the World is also celebrated by representatives of the Azerbaijani diaspora, who were not Azerbaijanis by nationality, but were born and raised in Azerbaijan.
On September 27, 2020, in response to the military aggression committed by Armenia against our country, the people of Azerbaijan rose to the Patriotic War at the call of the Commander-in-Chief, President Ilham Aliyev. The victorious Azerbaijan Army suffered a heavy defeat of the enemy and restored the territorial integrity of our country for 44 days full of heroism. The glorious Victory, which will live forever in the history of national statehood and in the memory of our people, was achieved thanks to the union of people and power, the high professionalism of our army and intense political and diplomatic activity.
The anti-terrorist operation held in September 2023 took only one day, less than that. Showing professionalism and heroism, the Azerbaijani Army decided the fate of that operation in a short period of time, going to all strategic places, and the enemy army was forced to surrender. Later, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev raised the National Flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the city of Khankendi on October 15. President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said in his speech at the military parade held in Khankendi on the occasion of November 8 – Victory Day:
“Thus, we restored historical justice. September 20, 2023 will remain in our history, just like November 8. After the Shusha operation on November 8, the back of the enemy army was broken and a day later he signed the act of capitulation. On April 23 of this year, we fully restored our territorial integrity by taking control of the Azerbaijan-Armenia border in the direction of Lachin, and on September 20, we fully restored state sovereignty. With this, the book of the separatists was closed. There will be no place for separatism in Azerbaijan. Today, the state of Azerbaijan controls the entire territory, and the cause of this is our brave men and tens of thousands of Azerbaijani soldiers who are standing in this square today. We achieved this Victory at the cost of their blood and lives.”
As during the 44-day Patriotic War, during the anti-terror operation held in September, the solidarity of the Azerbaijanis of the world and the close gathering around the President of Azerbaijan is an indication of the existence of unbreakable ties between our people and our nation. It was these unbreakable bonds that demonstrated the power of Azerbaijanis in front of all world powers. Thanks to this unity and the strength gained together, today Azerbaijanis are walking around the world.
Courageous protests of our compatriots living abroad against the insidious provocations of the enemy and anti-Azerbaijani circles, selfless services in conveying the truths of Azerbaijan to the world community were a worthy contribution to our Victory.
