The controversy was unleashed by the leak of the audio of a conversation between the former mayor of Santiago, Felipe Alessandri (RN), and the president of the Santiago Se Levanta Foundation, Giselle Dussaubat, in which they recognize the use of municipal resources to finance the arrival of immigrants to the commune.

The reactions to this revelation were immediate, and the ruling party came out with everything to comment on the leak. However, in the midst of the controversy, an exchange of statements was evident between the socialist deputies Daniel Manouchehri and Raúl Leiva. This occurred amid the divided support that the Socialist Party (PS) has given to the candidacy of the current mayor, Irací Hassler, of the Communist Party (PC).

And despite the fact that the socialists have raised the candidacy of Ismael Calderón, deputies and the vice president of the party gave their support to Hassler, contradicting the official position.

After the leak of the audio of former mayor Alessandri, Congressman Manouchehri affirmed that the right is mainly responsible for the massive Venezuelan immigration to Chile, highlighting that Felipe Alessandri’s audios are just one more example of this phenomenon.

Through a statement, the spokesperson for the Santiago Activo NGO and mayoral candidate, Ismael Calderón (PS), regretted the state of the commercial center of the commune of Santiago, attributing the situation to the management of Felipe Alessandri.

From the PC, Senator Daniel Núñez questioned the position of the entire right, maintaining that it was Alessandri who installed the criminal gangs in Santiago, implying direct responsibility for the current situation.
