Vienna (OTS) – The City Councilor for Social Affairs, Health and Sport, Peter Hacker, and the Coordinator for Psychiatry, Addiction and Drug Issues for the City of Vienna, Ewald Lochner, are deeply affected by the death of Dr. Hans Haltmayers. As the former medical director of Addiction Services Vienna and the City of Vienna’s representative for addiction and drug issues, Haltmayer was known and recognized as an expert in addiction medicine far beyond Vienna’s borders.
“I am very saddened by the death of Hans Haltmayer. The city of Vienna is losing a pioneer and important designer of its addiction and drug work. Many low-threshold offers for people suffering from addiction and the successful fight against hepatitis C bear his signature,” says city councilor Peter Hacker.
“Hans Haltmayer was one of the defining personalities in addiction treatment in the past decades. His expertise and commitment were highly respected in Vienna, Austria and throughout Europe and set new standards. Hans Haltmayer has influenced addiction and drug work through his actions and actions significantly improved in the interests of those affected. With Hans Haltmayer we have lost a comrade in the fight for the improvement of life marginalized people in our city of Vienna,” says Lochner.
“Working with Hans was enriching for everyone. Saying goodbye to him is very difficult. But this pain will eventually become easier; the memory of it and the important milestones in addiction medicine will remain forever. For Hans, it was the purpose and purpose of his life: to work together with the Addiction Aid Vienna team to improve the lives of people suffering from addiction and to work for their participation in society,” said the management of Addiction Aid Vienna on behalf of the entire workforce.
Hans Haltmayer was born and grew up in Linz. Even before his rotation, he took a job as a medical nurse in an addiction care facility and quickly realized that there were hardly any well-founded treatment offers in established medicine for the treatment of and dealing with people addicted to addictive substances. After his rotation, Hans Haltmayer decided to work at the “Ganslwirt”, the predecessor of the social medical facility “Jedmayer”, and was also involved in the conception and construction there. In Jedmayer he worked as a doctor in the outpatient clinic of the Vienna Addiction Help Center and later as the medical director of the Vienna Addiction Help Center.
In January 2024 he received the Gold Medal of Honor for services to the State of Vienna.
