New location offers better connections and more modern rooms for young patients

Vienna (OTS) The child and adolescent psychiatric outpatient clinic Extended Soulspace of the Psychosocial Services in Vienna (PSD-Vienna) was set up on the premises of the Hietzing Hospital in 2019. At the end of 2025, the facility will move to the Vienna Health Association’s Arial Baumgarten Care Center in Vienna’s 14th district. Until then, structural measures still need to be implemented. These will start shortly, announce the PSD-Vienna and the Vienna Health Association.

A move was already planned when it opened five years ago. The decision at the time to use the free-standing rooms in Pavilion 15 on the grounds of the Hietzing Clinic was made in order to be able to quickly and easily expand the capacities in child and adolescent psychiatry. With the change, the existing offers can take place under improved conditions in the future.

“The aim of the outpatient clinic is to ensure that children and young people are not completely removed from their everyday lives during the treatment phase. They should be able to go to school and receive care and treatment tailored to their needs, which is, for example, the reason for the opening hours from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. The move to Penzing is a further step in the systematic and regionalized expansion of care for mentally ill children and young people in Vienna.”, explains Ewald Lochner, coordinator for psychiatry, addiction and drug issues for the city of Vienna. At the new location, young people with mental illnesses and stress are also treated, cared for and supported by a multi-professional team.

District leader Michaela Schüchner welcomes the new addition to Penzing: “Mental illnesses can affect us all. This makes it all the more important to make the places where you can get professional help visible and communicate them. I am pleased that the location in Penzing now provides access for affected children and young people. This can also help the topic of mental illness in general to be addressed more openly in the district.”

“The multi-professional teams at PSD-Vienna consist of specialists in child and adolescent psychiatry and psychotherapeutic medicine, clinical psychologists, social workers, social educators, occupational therapists, music therapists, health and nursing staff and psychotherapists* Inside.”, explains Dr. Georg Psota, chief physician of psychosocial services in Vienna. This variety of treatment approaches means that the different challenges young people face can also be adequately met.

Home treatment offers treatment equivalent to a day clinic by a mobile team in a familiar environment for children and young people.
