An Afghan woman (37) has been sentenced to six years in prison on appeal for terrorizing her son and daughter for more than two years. They were taunted, kicked and beaten. The facts came to light when the 15-year-old daughter turned out to be pregnant… by her father. In the first instance, she was released with an effective period of ten months.
The violence within the family – who fled from Afghanistan but had been in Belgium for more than ten years – was discovered when on December 14, 2020, the then 15-year-old daughter H. went to the CLB in Ostend with the message that she was pregnant. She confessed that she had been raped numerous times by her own father.
During that conversation, Pandora’s box opened. Because the investigation that followed showed that she was beaten by her mother at least between the ages of 13 and 15. H. was responsible for the household. If she did not do this properly, she was beaten, often without the slightest reason. She also received accusations such as “I wish you had never been born” and “I hope you get cancer”.
‘Black’
But things were even worse with her brother. At least from the age of seven to ten, he was kicked almost every day, pinched until he bled, bitten, doused with hot tea, and hit with everything loose and solid: his bare fist, scissors, cell phone cable, heel. of a shoe or a piece of wood with nails in it. And when S. managed to make that piece of wood disappear, the mother simply went and got a branch in the park.
The reason? His skin was darker than that of his brothers and sisters. His mother also always called him ‘black’ and hardly gave him food to school. The brother was even given rotten food. He had to wash his sandwich box in the toilet. When police asked him when the violence started, he replied: “When you’re just born, you don’t know. But as soon as I could open my eyes, I knew.”
Non-mother
The father was sentenced to ten years in prison for the rape. The mother was initially sentenced to 20 months in prison, ten of which were effective. But the public prosecutor’s office appealed against this light sentence. According to the lawyer for the boy and the girl, they are scarred for life, before their lives have even begun. The attorney general also lashed out: “The two children were left defenseless to the sadistic whims of the lady, day and night.”
Moments later, the attorney general called her a “non-mother.” “I thought: if there is one form of love that is self-evident, it is motherly love. But I am once again deprived of an illusion. These are not parents, but executioners.”
The court therefore decided to significantly increase the sentence to six years in prison. The attorney general demanded her immediate arrest, but the court decided that she should not be put in handcuffs immediately and should only present herself to the prison later.
