The Government spends almost two million euros so that illegal immigrants in Ceuta and Melilla have a laundry service

The Government of Spain will spend 762.065,28 euros through the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, – headed by Elma Saiz – so that illegal immigrants housed in the Temporary Stay Center of Immigrants (CETI) of Ceuta have a laundry service the next twelve months. overoccupation and extreme overoccupation”, which gives an idea of ​​the level reached by the migration crisis in recent weeks.

To these more than 760,000 euros of public money that it will cost for the clothes of illegal immigrants in Ceuta to be washed and ironed by professionals, is added the contract already awarded for the same purpose to the CETI of Melilla. In this case, the contract was already awarded on November 7, 2023, as published in the Official State Gazette, where it had been offered a month before. The amount in this case was higher than that allocated to Ceuta. The winning bid corresponded to a contract 1.032.119,03 euros, although another larger one of 1,245,232.65 euros was presented.

This contract, furthermore, was processed urgently “for reasons of public interest, since the unique characteristics of special vulnerability of the residents of the center and the lack of provision of this basic cleaning service could pose a dangerous situation in the operation of the CETI”, as clarified in the specifications themselves.

They are not the only high expenses that the Government is making in the CETIs of Ceuta and Melilla. Currently, a procedure is also open to award a contract worth 4.681.762,80 euros for «supply of clothing, lingerie and cleaning, hygiene and household products, intended for residents of the CETI of Melilla. The tender was published on February 6 and will remain open until March 6. The winning company must supply during the next year dfrom clothing and textile items for household use to catering items.

The specifications for a “service of analytical (external laboratory tests) destined for residents of the Temporary Immigrant Stay Center (CETI) of Ceuta«, although in this case, during the reception of offers, the amount that Migrations will allocate to the contract has not been published.

This same Thursday Sánchez announced that the Government will mobilize 200 million euros in the next five years to encourage investment by Spanish companies in Mauritania. This measure is part of the aid package that both leaders are going to transfer to Mauritania, in exchange for greater cooperation in the control of migratory flows.
