Life Style: Dal and rice is a comforting yet healthy meal for any day. Using this recipe, you can make both dal and rice in less than 30 minutes and your lunch or dinner will be ready for a busy day.
Material
¾ cup mixed lentils (I used moong dal, toor dal, masoor dal, whole masoor dal)
2 cups water
½ cup chopped tomatoes (2 medium sized tomatoes)
¼ cup chopped onion (a small sized onion)
1 tbsp oil
1 green chilli
½ tsp chopped ginger
4 garlic cloves
½ tsp garam masala powder
½ tsp coriander seed powder
¼ tsp cumin
¼ tsp mustard seeds
¼ tsp turmeric powder
1 tablespoon chopped coriander
salt to taste
Method
Start the Instant Pot in saute mode.
When it becomes hot, add oil to the inner pot.
Now add cumin, mustard, green chilli and chopped ginger and garlic.
Once the garlic turns a little brown, you can transfer the seasoning to a smaller bowl so you can add it at the end. (optional)
Now add finely chopped onion and let it cook for a few minutes.
Add finely chopped tomatoes to this onion mixture and let it cook for 3 to 4 minutes.
– Add coriander seed powder, garam masala powder, turmeric powder, salt to this cooked tomato and mix well.
After a few minutes, add the washed dal (a mixture of toor, moong, masoor dal and whole masoor dal) into the inner vessel.
– Now add water into it. Close the Instant Pot with the lid, sealing the vent. Select manual or pressure cook mode and cook the mixed dal on high pressure for 5 minutes.
To cook rice with lentils, place a trivet over the lentils. Then place a bowl of rice on it and pressure cook on high pressure for 5 minutes.
Once the Instant Pot beeps, release manual pressure after 5 minutes.
Mix the dal well and adjust salt if necessary. If you have saved tadka from the first step, add it now.
Garnish the dal with coriander leaves and Indian style dal tadka is ready to serve.
