The others two arrested were going to pick up the boat’s crew in a vehicle after they ran the boat aground on a beach in La Línea. They are 34 and 54 years old and are also Spanish, with a history of drug trafficking and smuggling, facing alleged crimes of concealment and serious resistance to authority due to these new facts.

The deceased agents are Miguel Ángel González Gómez, 39 years old, a native of the Cádiz municipality of San Fernando, member of the Group of Specialists in Underwater Activities (GEAS), with a partner and a daughter; and David Pérez Carracedo, 43 years old, native of Barcelona, ​​member of the Rapid Action Group (GAR), with a wife and two children.

Both were sailing in a zodiac participating in an operation against drug trafficking in the port of Barbate, where they were hit by a high-speed boat manned by the first six detainees, resulting in their death. In addition, two other agents were injured, one of them slightly and the second seriously, although his life is not in danger.

The two deceased agents have been recognized with the posthumous award of the Golden Cross of the Order of Merit of the Civil Guard, these serious events awakening a public and political debate about the impact of drug trafficking on the Cádiz coast and about whether The police forces that fight against drug clans have sufficient human and material resources.
