As part of his official visit to the Kyrgyz Republic, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with the Chairman of the Kyrgyz Parliament (Jogorku Kenesh) Nurlanbek Shakiyev on April 9.

It was reported that during the meeting, views were exchanged on strategic cooperation relations between the two countries in various fields, future prospects of cooperation and inter-parliamentary relations:

Jeyhun Bayramov noted with satisfaction that the historic friendship and fraternal relations between Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan were further strengthened as a result of the existing mutual trust and political dialogue between the country’s leaders and were confirmed by the “Declaration on Strategic Partnership between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Kyrgyz Republic”. It was brought to attention that it encouraged the development of partnership relations, as well as the expansion of the contract-legal base”.

Within the framework of the meeting, Jeyhun Bayramov noted the importance of countries providing mutual support to each other’s position at the inter-parliamentary level, and emphasized that there are wide prospects for the development of inter-parliamentary relations:

“In addition, the importance of developing relations within the framework of regional and international organizations was emphasized. In particular, the existence of broad perspectives of cooperation within the framework of the Organization of Turkic States (TDT), as well as the importance of intensive contacts between the TDT member states in order to use the existing potential, was emphasized. In this regard, the TDT Confidence was expressed that the extraordinary summit to be held in Shusha in July of this year and the official summit to be held in Bishkek in October will be one of the contacts that will serve the development of the Organization.

It was also said that the head of MFA informed his interlocutor about the preparations for the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) and the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

“Chairman of the Jogorku Kenesh, Nurlanbek Shakiyev, in his turn, noted that his country attaches importance to brotherly relations with Azerbaijan based on ancient historical ties and the existence of prospects for improving existing cooperation in the previously mentioned areas. He fondly remembers his visit to our country last year to participate in the event of the 100th anniversary of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev. the speaker emphasized that the cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries is deepening day by day. Other bilateral and multilateral issues of mutual interest were also discussed during the meeting,” the report said.
