Comilla City Corporation by-election in the night. Voting through EVMs will be held on Saturday (March 9) from 8 am to 4 pm. 27 wards of the city have been kept under security to make the elections fair.
RAB, Bijib, Police and Ansar members were seen patrolling every ward of the city since morning. Regional Election and Returning Officer Farhad Hossain said that this security will continue until the results are announced.
It is known that Comilla Metropolitan Awami League’s organizing secretary Tahsin Bahar (bus symbol), Metropolitan Awami League advisor Noor Ur Rahman Mahmud Tanim (elephant symbol), expelled BNP leader and two-time former mayor Monirul Haque Sakku (clock symbol), former volunteer are contesting in the by-election. Party leader Nizam Uddin Qaiser (horse symbol).
In this election, there are 1 lakh 18 thousand 282 male voters, 1 lakh 24 thousand 278 female voters and two third gender voters. 105 presiding officers, 640 assistant presiding officers, 1,280 polling agents will work in 640 polling stations.
According to commission sources, 9 executive magistrates are on duty for security during the election and 27 magistrates are working in the field to enforce the code of conduct. 12 platoons of BGB have been deployed, 939 RAB members in 27 teams, 1,339 in 27 mobile police teams and nine striking forces are on the ground. Also two teams of Comilla Adarsh Sadar and Comilla Sadar Dakshin Thana will be as reserve force.
On election day, each center will have four armed police, two armed Ansar and 10 male and female Ansar VDP members with sticks. There will be one more armed policeman for important centers. In other words, there will be 16 law enforcement officers in general polling stations and 17 law enforcement officers in important polling stations.
In this regard, Superintendent of Police (SP) Abdul Mannan told Jago News that all steps have been taken by the district police so that ordinary voters can go to the center and vote without fear. Only 27 patrol teams have been formed by the district police. Along with the visible law enforcement forces, there will also be plainclothes detectives. If any untoward incident is reported, immediate action will be taken against the troublemakers.
Returning Officer Farhad Hossain told Jago News that not only the center but the entire Comilla city was brought under security after the campaign was over to make the Comilla City Corporation by-election fair. It will continue till the declaration of result. I hope to give the people of Comilla a free and fair election.
