During the marches called for this Wednesday, May 1, in commemoration of Labor Day, the president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro announced the breaking of diplomatic ties with Israel.

At the beginning of his speech in the Plaza de Bolívar in Bogotá, the president stated: “If Palestine dies, humanity dies, and we will not allow that to happen.”

Furthermore, in the speech it was confirmed that from “here on out, the Government of Change, and the President of the Republic informs that tomorrow diplomatic relations with the State of Israel will be broken, for having a government, for having a genocidal president.”

The president also explained the reasons behind the decision to sever relations with the Israeli government. “Today, perhaps, the world could be summarized in one word, perhaps all the slogans, all those colors could be summarized in a single word, which vindicates the need for life, rebellion, the raised flag and resistance, that word is called Gaza, it’s called Palestine, it’s called the girls, the boys, the babies who have died dismembered by the bombs”, the president stated.

Finally, the head of state of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, stressed that “today all of humanity, in the streets, by the millions, agrees with us, and we with it. It cannot be, it cannot return, the times of genocide, of the extermination of an entire people before our eyes, before our passivity, cannot come. “If Palestine dies, humanity dies, and we are not going to let it die,” He stated in his speech that it takes place this Wednesday in commemoration of Labor Day in Colombia.
