SUVs as an object of hatred in the class struggle? – 2024-02-13 13:32:38

When environmental protection is pretended to achieve completely different goals. The Mein Auto association calls for an honest discussion instead of manslaughter arguments!

Vienna (OTS) For years, some groups have been agitating against SUVs, which they have repeatedly described to the public as huge dirt throwers, parking space destroyers and dangerous tanks. Last week, after the vote in Paris, SUVs were once again declared the number one object of hate, even though just 3% of adult Parisians voted for higher parking fees. Combustion engines with more than 1.6 t and electric cars with more than 2 t should therefore pay three times the amount in downtown Paris. And only if they come from outside. In the Austrian discussion, the extremely low participation of Parisian citizens and the finer details were largely ignored. “The same actors always loudly attack an artificial enemy image. “They are less concerned with environmental protection and more concerned with stirring up envy between people,” says Prof. Burkhard Ernst, chairman of the “Mein Auto” association.

There is neither a legal definition for SUVs nor do they represent a uniform car class: “There are modern and economical SUVs that consume far less fuel than some outdated small cars. The state is already “punishing” consumption with NoVA, mineral oil tax and CO2 pricing. And to a greater extent than almost any other country in Europe. We don’t need additional taxes just because a few class warriors can’t stand the freedom of choice for drivers!” adds Prof. Ernst, and continues: “If you want to reduce fuel consumption, a bonus for scrapping old cars would be much more sensible.”

The association “My Car – Initiative to Promote Individual Mobility” has been resolutely opposing car haters for years. “Individual mobility is not only a part of our freedom, it is also an everyday necessity for many people that a small, radical minority does not want to accept,” concludes the club chairman.

Every vote for the car referendum counts!

The “Mein Auto” association launched the “Car People’s Initiative – Costs Down” in order to offer the silent majority a platform. Supporters can sign online at the nearest municipal or municipal office or with a cell phone signature, card-based citizen card, ID Austria or EU login. If the necessary 100,000 signatures are reached, Parliament must address the issue.
