Brasschaat –

In the investigation into the homejacking at the Pfaffs in Brasschaat, the investigating judge has arrested a second suspect. It concerns a 55-year-old man from the Charleroi region, confirms Kristof Aerts of the Antwerp public prosecutor’s office.

Federal judicial police investigators arrested the new suspect on Monday. The 55-year-old man was brought before the investigating judge on Tuesday. “They decided to arrest the suspect,” confirms public prosecutor’s office spokesman Kristof Aerts. What his precise role would be is subject to further investigation. Two weeks ago, investigators arrested their first suspect, partly based on a footprint that was allegedly found at the Pfaffs’ home. That suspect, a 25-year-old man who also comes from Charleroi, appeared before the council chamber last week. His detention has been extended by one month.

The homejacking at Jean-Marie and Carmen Pfaff dates from August 18, 2023. That day, three suspects entered the house through the backyard, where Carmen was doing the ironing at the time. Carmen was beaten several times by the robbers. After the victim was locked in the toilet, the three perpetrators searched the Pfaffs’ home. They stole several pieces of jewelry. Carmen was eventually able to free herself. She was taken to hospital with injuries.

Oriana van Wely, the suspect’s lawyer, cannot yet comment on the case. “There is still a lot of uncertainty,” said Master Van Wely. “My client has been arrested and will appear in court on Friday.” (vdaa)
