Victim protection experts and those affected by domestic violence spoke to Wolfgang Geier
Vienna (OTS) – “Men’s Matter Femicide – Why and what can be done about it?” These and other questions will be addressed in a new edition of the ORF III discussion format “zur SACHE” on Friday, March 1, 2024, at 8:15 p.m. Wolfgang Geier welcomes to the studio: Karin Pfolz (author and affected person), Carmen Thornton (lawyer), Christina Riezler (managing director of the Salzburg Violence Protection Center), Sigrun Roßmanith (psychiatrist and court expert) and Alexander Haydn (men’s advice).
Five women were killed in a 24-hour period and another woman lost her life in an act of violence earlier this week. All six femicide cases are different, but they share one common characteristic: the perpetrators were male. Among the guests on the show is Karin Pfolz, a woman who experienced violence in her relationship and took years to get out of this marriage. Her case illustrates the disturbing reality of numerous acts of violence against women in Austria. Last year alone, 28 women were violently killed, and in almost all cases there was a relationship between the perpetrator and the victim. What are the causes behind this level of violence – and are there patterns behind the individual acts? What will and what can be done about it?
