Doors open for compatriots in Germany: First woman Pakistani ambassador

Saqleen Syeda, the first Pakistani woman, has recently taken up her duties as an ambassador at the Pakistani Embassy in Berlin, Germany.

Saqleen Saida from Lahore submitted her documents to German President Frank Walter Steinmeier on October 23, 2023. His two daughters were also present with him on this occasion.

Saqleen Saida completed her education from Lahore and joined the Foreign Office in 1995. She has served in various countries including Indonesia, Canada, Ukraine, China and Kenya.

In an interview given to Independent Urdu, Saqleen Saida spoke interestingly about her personal life, including the relationship between Pakistan and Germany.

According to Saqlain Saida: ‘I have come here with the experience of all continents, our relationship with Germany is very old. Germany is the country that we helped when it didn’t get to that point. The people of this country are hardworking, that’s why we supported them because we knew they would go far.’

Expressing determination to take the relations between Pakistan and Germany further, Ambassador Saqlain Saida said that ‘I will carry forward my experience and the efforts of previous ambassadors and we will develop mutual relations in a new way, which First of all, our focus is to improve mutual political relations and affairs. After that economic relations are very important and in this regard the Pakistani business community here can play a very important role.

He said that Germany is a country where Pakistani youth can come and not only do business but also get education and a job.

Denying the rumors about dual citizenship that have been going on for a long time, Saqlain Saida said that the issue of dual citizenship is not so simple. “The countries from which we have dual citizenship were not part of the European Union until then, but Germany is.”

When asked about the delay in obtaining German visa, he said that the problem of delay is not only with Pakistan, but many other countries are also facing the problem of delay in issuing visas.

The Pakistani ambassador said: ‘Our doors will always be open to new and old compatriots coming to Germany.’

She said that she is fond of food and also loves to cook.

According to Saqleen Saida: ‘When I am in the kitchen, I try that no one comes into the kitchen and I work alone.’

She said that ‘I am old-fashioned, that’s why I am passionate about sewing and embroidery and books.’ According to the Pakistani ambassador, he is also fond of reciting and reading poetry.

Giving a message to the Pakistanis living in Germany, Saqleen Saida said that Pakistan is our identity in this world. ‘Through us you are and through you we are and all of us are through Pakistan. We have to work hand in hand to improve the relationship between Pakistan and Germany.
