Cooperation at events, public relations and support for top athletes after their careers

Vienna (OTS) Interior Minister Gerhard Karner and the President of the Austrian Sports Aid Susanne Riess-Hahn signed a cooperation agreement in Vienna on February 28, 2024. The goal: to jointly promote top athletes and to work together to counteract sexual violence, doping, betting fraud and corruption in the sports world.

Interior Minister Gerhard Karner said: “Sporthilfe currently supports 280 top and young athletes, 35 of the supported athletes are members of the top police sports squad. The cooperation agreement between two highly successful organizations benefits top-level police sport, but also sport in general.”

Cooperation between the Ministry of the Interior and Sports Aid

At joint events in the future, greater emphasis will be placed on cohesion, tolerance, respect and non-discrimination. Joint security measures will also be taken in processing and coordination, and in the future there will be a contact person for sports assistance in the Ministry of the Interior.

The second aspect concerns joint public relations work. In the future, common information platforms will be used, and police sports will be presented on Austrian Sport Aid advertising materials during the events in order to make top police sports even more visible.

Thirdly, joint support for women and men after their sports careers: The Ministry of the Interior has a best practice model here. The Austrian Sport Aid, in turn, is intended to present the top-class sports funding system within the Austrian sports landscape in order to ensure a transfer of knowledge between Sporthilfe and the police.

“We have a lot to be proud of together. After years of highly successful collaboration, we can now support the athletes in even more diverse ways,” said Susanne Riess-Hahn, President of Austrian Sport Aid.
