Former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has been released on parole. He was released on Sunday (February 18). After losing power in a military coup, this wealthy politician was in exile outside the country for 15 years. British news agency Reuters reported this news.

Pichai Naripathapan, an adviser to the Thai government and former energy minister, shared an old photo of himself with Thaksin on social media X and wrote, “Congratulations Prime Minister Thaksin.” Hope you are healthy and have a happy time with your family.

74 years this politician’s family has returned to power in Thailand. He was arrested after returning home but did not stay a night in jail. He was kept in a luxury section of a hospital citing health reasons.

His eight-year sentence was reduced to one year the day before he returned to Thailand from 15 years of self-imposed exile.

He was seen leaving the hospital on Sunday in a checked shirt, face mask and hand sling with his daughter Paytongtern next to a car. His daughter is the leader of the ruling Pheu Thai Party. He arrived at his residence in Bangkok 25 minutes after leaving the hospital.

Yingluck Shinawatra’s elder brother Thaksin Shinawatra was ousted in a coup in 2006. He left the country to avoid major corruption allegations.
