The police have arrested two people on the charge of embezzling around two crore taka for taking Tarakandayan of Mymensingh to perform Umrah in Saudi Arabia.

When the police sent the two accused to court on Thursday (May 2) afternoon, Judge Asma Sultana fixed the remand hearing date and ordered them to be sent to jail.

The arrested are Tanveer Abdul Hannan (42), son of deceased Abdul Malek of South Auchpara of Tongi West Police Station in Gazipur and Sharif Hossain alias Masum Billah (46), son of Abder Hossain of Sur Tarang Road in the area.

According to the police and local sources, the two fraudsters went missing for a year after taking about two crore rupees from hundreds of people from different parts of the country including Tarakanda Phulpur, Sadar, Tangail, Sherpur, Netrakona. That year they brought some people from Tarakanda to perform Umrah. After that they rented some ponds in village Majhiali of Tarakanda police station and started fishery business. Suddenly 3-4 days ago the accused came to the fishery and started selling fish. Later, the victims of fraud came to know about the matter and informed the police. On receiving the information, Tarakanda police arrested them.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tarakanda Police Station. Wajed Ali told Jago News that when the defendants were sent to court with a five-day remand, the judge set the remand hearing date on May 6 and ordered them to be sent to jail.

He also said that a victim of fraud named Arif Hossain filed a case in Tarakanda police station as a plaintiff. After the case, they were sent to the court on remand application.
