The book that will be used as evidence to advance the canonization of the colonel was presented Argentinian from Valle Larrabure. The meeting was held at the Military Circle and the Minister of Security participated, Luis Petri. “I come to apologize for forgetting democracy with this hero,” said the official.

The beatification and canonization process has a set of evidence that will be presented at the Vatican. The soldier was kidnapped and murdered by the ERP in August 1975. With an event in the Military Circle of the City of Buenos Aires, the historian Sebastian Miranda Yesterday he presented his book “Argentino Del Valle Larrabure: martyr of God and the Country.”

Minister Petri spoke during the official presentation. “I come to apologize for forgetting democracy with this hero. Some leaders demonized the Armed Forces that acted in the 1970s, he stated.

“I felt the need to be here to pay tribute to Larrabure who, like a good soldier, gave his life for his country. There is a thread between the fight against terrorism of the past and the need to act in Rosario,” he added. In that sense, the minister reaffirmed that the Armed Forces are going to act in that city of Santa Fe.

The military vocation and his religious faith

In the Buenos Aires Military Circle, the author of the book highlighted the figure of Larrabure. “Already in his childhood we could see the vocation of this man. As a child he played with tin soldiers and used to follow the guard that guarded the House of Tucumán in his native province,” he explained.

Miranda related that his mother called him Argentino because he was going to serve his country and Del Valle because the Virgin of the Valley of Catamarca was going to protect him. His family was sensitive because an 18-month-old son had died a few months before his birth.

Larrabure trained at a Salesian school in Tucumán and there his religious vocation was born. He was kidnapped by the ERP for 372 days, locked in a tiny cage underground.

Meanwhile, the brigadier general (r), Jose Luis Figueroa, maintained that “Larrabure lived 372 days in a miserable pit and managed to overcome the hatred and torture to which he was subjected by his captors. “It is a complete reflection of what an Argentine soldier should be.”

Figueroa highlighted the presence of Larrabure’s family at the presentation. “There are his children Arturo and Susana. His grandchildren in great union. There are also his classmates from the class of 1982. Of the 220, 23 are still alive and are always there to accompany the ‘Basque’, as they say.”

For his part, the military bishop, Santiago Olivera, explained that “Larrabure’s martyrdom in his 372 days of kidnapping is the greatest expression of love. Because it is a love without limits to which they tortured him and kept him in captivity in a dark pit.”

Olivera also highlighted the soldier’s letters to his family in which he asked his children and wife that “they should not hate anyone. Thus it becomes a beacon of light on the path of Jesus in times of darkness and violence.”
