The Government of Colombia reported this Friday through a statement that last Thursday it delivered to the Israeli ambassador in Bogotá, Gali Dagan, the verbal note notifying him of the breaking of diplomatic relations.

The letter adds that Dagan was informed that the Foreign Ministry’s Protocol Directorate “will coordinate the procedure and times for the departure of diplomatic personnel.”

Likewise, the “intention to maintain the activity of the respective consular sections in Tel Aviv and Bogotá” was confirmed to the Israeli ambassador.

The day before, the Colombian Foreign Minister, Luis Gilberto Murillo, reported on the determination announced by the Colombian President, Gustavo Petro, last Wednesday, in rejection of the aggressions of the Government of Israel against the Palestinian population found in the Gaza Strip, which has caused the death of more than 34,000 people, displacement and famine.

Since October 2023, Petro described the actions of the Hebrew State against civilians as genocide and warned that it could break relations with Israel, which called him anti-Semitic.

In March of this year, the Colombian president reiterated the proposal to cut diplomatic ties with the Jewish State if it did not comply with the ceasefire approved by the United Nations Security Council. Fuente: RT
