Just enjoying the cup win last weekend, but Monday was another working day at Roeselare. With three more matches in the preliminary competition on the calendar, Knack wants to maintain – and even strengthen – its current leading position.
“Already sober after carnival and the cup festival? Are you crazy? We have already had a training session today,” laughs Seppe Rotty, MVP of the cup final against Menen. “It was a pleasant but modest party on Saturday in the VIP room of the Tomabel Hall. A short tribute, a few drinks and some talk with the supporters, and then the necessary rest. It all seems easy and we won that cup final easily, but it still takes energy. Recovery is also important.”
Interesting triptych
Roeselare did not survive the group stage of the Champions League, but did successfully complete the second of the club’s three traditional objectives. After the cup win, a fifteenth national title becomes the next ambition. “I think we are ready for the last and perhaps most important part of the season,” says Seppe Rotty with confidence. “Before we start the play-offs, the remaining triptych of the preliminary competition will be interesting for us. With the home match against Borgworm on Wednesday, the move to Maaseik on Saturday and the closing match in our venue against Aalst the following week, we coincidentally meet the current numbers four, three and two in the rankings. Three consecutive, quite fascinating tests.”
“At the end of November we had to turn a 2-0 deficit into a tiebreak victory in Borgworm,” remembers Seppe Rotty. “There should therefore be no question of underestimation. We were more concerned with the Champions League at the time, but Borgworm has proven to be surprisingly strong this season. A team with a lot of experience and with the young but strong Pierre Perin on the opposite side. I also don’t expect any decompression at Roeselare after last Saturday’s cup win. It probably won’t be easy on Wednesday evening. Losing would not be a drama, but a home defeat as a brand new cup winner is of course not possible.”
