Jerusalem – The Palestinian News Agency “Wafa” reported in a report published yesterday, Monday, that on the first day of Ramadan, Israeli forces surrounded the fence adjacent to Al-Aqsa Mosque in the Lion’s Gate area with barbed wire.

The Jerusalem Governorate said in a brief statement carried by the agency: “In a dangerous precedent and for the first time since 1967, the Israeli army today placed barbed wire on the fence adjacent to Al-Aqsa Mosque in the Lion’s Gate area.”

The official in the faction movement in the Old City, Nasser Qaws, explained that “Israel aims through this step to prevent worshipers from entering Al-Aqsa Mosque to pray.”

According to the agency, “Israeli forces have imposed a strict siege on Al-Aqsa Mosque for five months and prevented entry to it. They have issued dozens of deportation orders against Jerusalemites, in order to prevent them from praying during the month of Ramadan.”

On Sunday evening, Israeli forces imposed restrictions and restrictions on Palestinian worshipers who were trying to enter Al-Aqsa Mosque to perform the first Tarawih prayer on the eve of the beginning of the month of Ramadan.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced earlier that “entry of worshipers to Al-Aqsa Mosque will be available during the first week of Ramadan, without change from previous years.” He added, “The situation will be evaluated weekly in terms of security and safety aspects, and that decisions will be taken accordingly.”

Netanyahu did not clarify the condition of Al-Aqsa in previous years or the numbers allowed to enter it, nor did he clarify the situation of West Bank Palestinians and whether they would be allowed to enter Jerusalem and pray at Al-Aqsa.
