Asia Cup Archery’s four events on Sunday were Bangladesh’s medal decider. Out of these, gold medals in two events and bronze medals in two. Bangladesh lost two gold fights. The red-greens secured the silver after losing to India. And won one of the two bouts for bronze, with another event to be played later.

Bangladesh lost 6-2 set points to India in the recurve men’s team event gold in the Iraqi capital Baghdad on Sunday.

However, Bangladesh started with a win against mighty India in the final. Bangladesh’s three archers Alif Abdur Rahman, Sagar Islam and Hakeem Ahmed Rubel scored 55 in the first set. On the contrary, Bangladesh won the first set when the Indian archers scored 54. Martin Frederick’s team could not win the competition after that.

In the last fourth set, when India scored 56 and Bangladesh scored 53, the red-green missed the opportunity to win the gold with 6-2 set points.

Within minutes of losing gold in the recurve men’s team event, Sagar Islam and Dia Siddiqui played in the recurve mixed team event. They could not win. In the mixed event, India won three straight sets to secure the gold by 6-0 points.

Bangladesh’s morning in Baghdad started with bronze. In the recurve women’s team event, Bangladesh cruised to a straight sets 6-0 win over hosts Iraq. Dia Siddiqui, Shima Akhter and Nisha Fahmida Sultana are playing in the Bangladesh Recurve women’s team.

Hakeem Ahmed Rubel lost 6-2 set points to Uzbekistan’s Sadiq Amir Khan in the only individual medal match in the recurve.

All in all, Bangladesh has to be satisfied with two silver and two bronze in Baghdad.
