21 eminent persons have been given ‘Ekushey Padak 2024’ for their outstanding contribution in various fields of the country. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presented Bangladesh’s second highest civilian award ‘Ekushey Padak’ to the nominees in a ceremony at the capital’s Osmani Smriti Auditorium at around 11 am on Tuesday (February 20).
Earlier, on February 13, 2024, the Ministry of Culture announced the names of the nominees for the Ekushe Padak. Six of the 21 nominees received the honor posthumously.
Before the distribution of the medals, the President congratulated the nominees in a separate message on Monday (February 19). Sahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The government has been awarding this medal every year since 1976 in memory of the martyrs of the language movement for special contributions in various fields. This year, each awardee was given a gold medal weighing 35 grams, a one-time sum of Tk 4 lakh and a certificate.
This year, two in language movement category, 12 in art, two in social service, four in language and literature and one eminent citizen in education have received the award.

Medal recipients are, the language movement. Ashrafuddin Ahmad (posthumous) and heroic freedom fighter Hatim Ali Mia (posthumous). Jalal Uddin Khan (posthumous), veer freedom fighter Kalyani Ghosh, Vidit Lal Das (posthumous), Andrew Kishore (posthumous) and Shubhra Dev in art music. Shibli Mohammed in Dance. Starring Dolly Jahoor and MA Alamgir. Khan in the recital. Mustafa Waleed (Shimul Mustafa) and Rupa Chakraborty.
Shahjahan Ahmed Bikas in painting. Kawsar Chowdhury in documentary production and archiving on liberation war. Md. in social service. Ziaul Haque and Alhaj Rafiq Ahmed. Muhammad Samad, Lutfar Rahman Riton, Minar Mansoor and Rudra Muhammad Shahidullah (posthumous) in language and literature. And the professor in education. Jinbodhi Bhikkhu received the Ekushey Medal.
