SPÖ social spokesman Muchitsch: ÖVP and Greens are postponing secure pensions in the Social Committee – 2024-02-27 08:34:46

Vienna (OTS/SK) The SPÖ had two motions regarding pensions on the agenda in the Social Committee of the National Council today. A comprehensive motion for a resolution to secure long-term pensions and an initiative motion to permanently abolish aliquoting. The governing parties ÖVP and the Greens have once again postponed both applications with their majority. SPÖ social spokesman Josef Muchitsch has no understanding of this at all: “The working population and the younger generations deserve security. Unfortunately, the government only delivers uncertainty.” ****

Aliquoting means that the first pension adjustment becomes smaller depending on the month in which you start your pension. The full pension increase at the first adjustment in January of the following year is only available if you start in January. This drops by 10 percent per month; anyone who retires in November or December will not receive any increase at all in the following January. Aliquoting is particularly disadvantageous for women because, as a result of the gradual increase in the retirement age, their regular retirement date is always in the second half of the year. The aliquoting is suspended for the year 2024, but will start again in full from 2025. The SPÖ wants an abolition in permanent law.

The comprehensive proposal regarding the security of the pension system is based on ensuring that employees can work healthily for longer and thus bring the actual starting age closer to the legal starting age. The SPÖ is calling on the government to “provide the necessary financial resources for a personnel offensive in the areas of health, child education and care, to finally set appropriate incentives to increase the actual retirement age, and to implement measures to get women out of the part-time trap and to make a clear commitment against increasing the current statutory retirement age.” (Conclusion) wf/up
