Abu Hanif Miah was elected president and Tajul Islam general secretary in the election of Shariatpur District Lawyers Association. Both of them were candidates of Bangabandhu Awami Lawyers Council nominated white panel.
Chief Election Commissioner Rashidul Hasan Masum announced the results on Saturday (February 24) around 7:30 p.m. Earlier, polling was held in the association’s building from 9 am to 3 pm.
According to related sources, there were 285 voters in the election. Among them, 272 people voted. In this year’s Bar Association elections, out of 15 posts, candidates for five posts, including general secretary, were elected unopposed. All but two of the white panel nominated by the Bangabandhu Awami Lawyers Parishad won.
Others elected are vice-president Chaidur Rahman Chaid, joint secretary Jamal Bhuiyan, joint general secretary Manowar Hossain and cultural secretary Radha Rani Dey.
Kabir Hossain Khokon, Aminur Rahman Mollah, Sanwar Hossain Mallik, Moazzem Hossain and Billal Hossain were elected as members.
Those elected unopposed are Alamgir Hossain Howladar as Senior Vice President, Tajul Islam as General Secretary, Mizanur Rahman as Finance Secretary, Rezwanul Hasan Roni as Library Secretary and Asadul Islam Shubhra as Audit Secretary.
