Vienna (OTS) The continuing education program of the Austrian Integration Fund (ÖIF) starts the summer semester of 2024 at the beginning of March and offers more than 70 different seminars with specialists. It is aimed at people who have to do with integration in everyday life or in a professional context, such as educators, teachers in German courses, health care personnel, representatives of authorities, communities and companies or members of voluntary organizations.

The main topics of the ÖIF seminar program in the summer semester of 2024 are:

  • learn German
  • labour market
  • Intercultural communication
  • Promotion of women and measures for men
  • Discrimination, racism and cyberbullying
  • Extremism and anti-Semitism
  • Integration into school and kindergarten

The extensive and free online offering enables participants from all over Austria to receive further training regardless of location. So far, around 8,000 multipliers have already taken part in the ÖIF further training program.

Focus: Raising awareness against anti-Semitism, extremism and violence

Against the backdrop of the Middle East conflict and the associated anti-Semitism as well as increasing violence in Austrian schools, the seminar program focuses on further training that provides background knowledge, presents best practice approaches and provides practical recommendations for action. Speakers such as Ahmad Mansour (Heroes Germany), Kenan Güngör (Expert Council for Integration), education expert Daniel Landau and extremism researcher Daniela Pisoiu share their specialist knowledge and experiences. Other seminars are offered by experts from the Political Islam Documentation Center, the Extremism Advice Center, the SICHER LEBEN initiative and the Volkshilfe Oberösterreich (winner of the Integration Prize 2023 – Youth category), among others. Topics such as digital violence, cyberbullying and civil courage online are also on the program.

Violence against women: Focus on women’s empowerment and prevention

Violence against women, femicides and migration-specific topics such as forced marriage and female genital mutilation (FGM) are other key topics of the summer semester. Experts from the Institute for Conflict Research, the Autonomous Women’s Shelters Austria (AFÖ) and the FEM Süd association pass on their specialist knowledge and provide information on important contact points and preventative measures. The range of seminars in the area of measures for men has been expanded: experts shed light on intercultural aspects and patriarchal behavior and provide information about measures to prevent violence.

Integration of immigrants and international skilled workers in companies

The integration of international skilled workers and the use of their qualifications are an important factor for the domestic labor market. The topic of this seminar series is how companies can attract and retain immigrants as workers and deal well with increasingly diverse teams. Information and practical suggestions are also provided on how the process of recognizing qualifications works and how young people with a migrant background can be attracted to teaching professions and supported in the area of teaching. One focus is on the possibilities of promoting German language skills in the company and related support offers for companies. As part of the ÖIF seminars, company representatives present best practice examples to promote the successful integration of immigrants into companies.

Further training program for teachers in German courses

To provide targeted support for teachers in German and literacy courses, the ÖIF is also offering an extensive training program in the 2024 summer semester to impart technical background knowledge and strengthen the teachers’ personal and social skills. Topics include, in particular, lesson planning in literacy courses, language support for people who are unfamiliar with learning and new didactic approaches in German lessons.
