UAE Armed Forces unification anniversary rich with lessons and experiences: Maktoum bin Mohammed, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai

Abu Dhabi: DuSheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Ruler of Bahrain, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, highlighted the significance of the UAE Armed Forces Unification Anniversary. He stressed that the event is rich with lessons and experiences, reminiscent of the wisdom, dedication and generosity of the UAE’s founders. These leaders decided to unify the UAE Armed Forces to equip the young nation with strength and resilience. In a speech marking the 48th anniversary of the unification of the armed forces, Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed stressed the significance of the anniversary of May 6, 1976. He said that this date holds additional significance as it marks the beginning of the development journey of the UAE Armed Forces. These forces have now achieved a high level of skill, capability and readiness which is in line with the exemplary Emirati model. This model is structured to include all the essential components of self-reliance to support growth, advancement and resilience. The text of his speech on the occasion is as follows: “It is my honor to share the celebration of the 48th anniversary of the unification of the UAE Armed Forces with our wise leadership and the beloved sons and daughters of the UAE.

This occasion, full of lessons and experiences, reminds us of the wisdom, dedication and contributions of our founding fathers under the leadership of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. They came together on the decision to unify our armed forces to empower our young nation through strength and resilience and pave the way to deepen the unity of our Emirati family and strengthen our broader national identity.

The unification of our armed forces on May 6, 1976 was a watershed moment. This not only fulfilled a key pillar of the foundation of the UAE, but also accelerated the development of a powerful military that embodies the spirit of our nation. Renowned for their efficiency, capability and readiness, these forces are the cornerstone of our self-reliant Emirati model, ensuring continued progress and strength. The rapid localization of all ranks is a testament to the success of this initiative. Furthermore, the armed forces have played a leading role in diversifying the economy by establishing a strong presence in the defense industry, paving the way for private sector participation in this vital sector.

Our armed forces have represented the UAE in partnerships with international forces for peacekeeping, counter-terrorism and assistance to those affected by conflicts and natural disasters. Our leaders have supported the armed forces in their development and progress.
