The warm season draws us into nature – why not just let go while hiking?
Vienna (OTS) – Have you ever met people on the hiking trail who had nothing on except shoes, a backpack or a hat? Then this was probably an encounter of a special kind: with naked hikers!
This encounter is particularly likely not far from Lake Gösselsdorf in southern Carinthia, as Austria’s first nude hiking trail was established there in the 1980s. To this day, it is not uncommon to walk naked in the open air and collect mushrooms and berries. The “International Nude Hiking Week” has also been very popular in Austria’s mountains for almost 20 years, and in Germany there are two explicitly designated “nude hiking trails”.
The trend is becoming increasingly popular and is intended to bring nature and all its elements even closer, have a positive effect on the perception of one’s own or other people’s bodies and show comprehensive influences on the body and mind.
Legal situation
But are they even allowed to do that? – Yes, you can! Anyone who is unclothed on public hiking trails is not committing a criminal offense – as long as the activities are not related to sexual acts and “public decency” is maintained. In heavily frequented places, naked hikers should therefore dress or cover something. In any case, astonished faces are inevitable thanks to this up-close experience.
