Klagenfurt, Carinthia (OTS) With up to 80cm of fresh snow, the winter season in Carinthia continues in full force. After the good winter half-year so far with an increase in overnight stays of 3.8% as well as well-booked semester holidays, Ms. Holle’s replenishment now enables increased booking incentives for sunny skiing and Easter holidays in the Carinthian snow.

In the last few days there has been a lot of fresh snow on Carinthia’s mountains, so Nassfeld has received 80cm of new snow, but the other Carinthian ski areas are also covered in deep snow. There is also 80cm of fresh snow on the Emberger Alm, 60cm on the Katschberg, 50cm in Heiligenblut, 35cm on the Turracher Höhe and even the east of Carinthia received a few centimeters of fresh snow on the Petzen, the Koralpe or the Klippitztörl.

Traditional sun skiing is ushered in with excellent piste conditions and the new SUN HOUR COUNTER

Carinthia Advertising Managing Director Klaus Ehrenbrandtner: “We know from the guest survey that our winter sports guests see the weather conditions on the southern side of the Alps, with more sun and better ground visibility than in the north, as a clear plus point for Carinthia. The Carinthian ski areas actually register more hours of sunshine in the winter months than other ski destinations north of the main Alpine ridge. The new sunshine hour counter, which was developed on the initiative of Kärnten Werbe in collaboration with GeoSphere Austria, now proves the truth.” This visualization shows how many hours of sunshine have occurred in each ski area since the beginning of winter. The duration of sunshine is compared with the average number of hours of sunshine in the 20 largest ski areas in Austria outside of Carinthia. The data is updated daily by GeoSphere Austria. In the period measured so far from November 1, 2023 to February 25, 2024, the values are an average of around 418 hours of sun in the 23 Carinthian ski areas – and that with guaranteed snow. In Carinthia’s ski areas there were around 40% more hours of sunshine than the average of the 20 largest ski areas in Austria outside Carinthia. Here the average is 300 hours of sunshine.

By clicking on the respective ski area, the current hours of sunshine for all 23 ski areas can be viewed individually on the following page: www.kaernten.at/ski/.

Also Georg Overs from the Villach – Faaker See – Ossiacher See region is happy about the snow that has now fallen: “Even though the piste conditions were always praised by our guests as being very good, the “addiction to snow” was already very great – it’s nice that this wish was finally fulfilled! We are happy about the many pictures that are currently being distributed on social media.”

Manuel Kapeller-Hopfgartner, technical director of the Carinthian cable cars: “The supply of fresh snow has really brought winter back in Carinthia and we are starting March with a beautiful winter landscape on the Carinthian mountains and continued excellent piste conditions. We are looking forward to skiing in the sun and an excellent alpine ski product for our guests.”

Markus Ramsbacher, Managing Director of the Katschberg-Lieser-Maltatal region: “The Katschberg has been in deep winter again since Friday, and there is also a lot of fresh snow in the Inner Krems. We are now looking forward to sun skiing until the end of the season on March 31st. On March 23rd we are offering another gourmet festival of superlatives at the Gamskogelhütte, where 10 toques will be cooking together: host Stefan Lastin, cooking together with Hubert Wallner and Johannes Fux. The gourmet menu including wine accompaniment for € 180 also includes a day ski pass from the Katschberg ski area.”

The ski season lasts until Easter in most ski areas, the Heiligenblut and Nassfeld ski areas are expected to be open until April 7th, and the Mölltal Glacier until probably mid-June. Until then, there’s still a lot going on on the slopes: the “Music meets Sun” event is on the program every Saturday at Nassfeld from February 24th, where DJs and live music will heat up the ski huts. The 5th Carinthia Shred Tour will take place at Nassfeld on March 23rd and 24th. The Gerlitze invites you on March 9th. for a retro ski day on March 17th. The Gerlitzen Kanzel Cup – a Big Air Contest – will take place. In Bad Kleinkirchheim you can from 9th to 28th. March will be celebrated at “When the Music Plays – Sun Skiing” with the stars of the Music Après-Ski.

Great offers round off the sunny skiing in Carinthia: at the Klippitztörl, many cooperation companies are offering from February 24th. Ski passes are available free of charge when booking accommodation until the end of the season. At the Koralpe, Mondays are ladies’ days and every Tuesdays are seniors’ days. Those affected receive a day ticket for €20. In Bad Kleinkirchheim, holiday guests with a ski pass of 3 days or more receive an additional 30% discount on the valid ski pass tariff and also a 4-hour entry to the Thermal Römerbad. The “skiing fun & wellness enjoyment” offer applies to the Petzen: for stays of 2 nights or more, the day ski ticket for the Petzen and a 3-hour ticket for the bathhouse at Lake Klopein are included in selected establishments.
