Lieutenant Le Minh Tan, Captain of the Song May Lake Aquaculture Team, said that the number of fish started dying about a week ago and has been dying en masse for the past 3 days due to low water levels in Song May Lake.

Due to prolonged heat, Song May Lake has now dried up and its water surface has decreased from 196 hectares to only about 2 hectares. The deepest depth is only about 1m, the number of fish in the lake is almost all dead.

According to Senior Lieutenant Le Minh Tan, the weather was hot, the water source was shallow, and the fish in the lake were thick, leading to fish losing oxygen and dying en masse: “The unit mobilized all 53 soldiers and contract staff to carry out the task.” Picked up and processed dead fish from the lake continuously for the past 2 days to ensure the surrounding environment and minimize bad odors in residential areas.

Director of Dong Nai Construction Technical Consulting Company Limited (construction unit), Trung Tuan Anh, said that the project to renovate and repair Song May lake will start construction in early 2024.

To date, the project has been completed about 50%; In which, many basic complex items have been completed. It is expected that 80% of the project will be completed before the rainy season this year.

This led to the release of water to repair and renovate the lake, combined with the continuous hot weather over the past few days, causing the fish in the lake to lack oxygen to breathe, leading to mass deaths.

According to research, on September 12, 2023, Dong Nai Irrigation Works Exploitation One-Member Limited Liability Company sent document No. 924/KTTL-KHK to the Military Command of Dong Nai province on clearing Clearing assets in the lake bed to serve the implementation of the project to renovate and repair Song May lake.

Accordingly, in the construction and repair measures of Song May lake, there are items of dredging the lake bed and earthen dams that directly affect the aquaculture of the Aquaculture Team under the Military Command of Dong Nai province. .

In order not to affect property and materials during project construction, Dong Nai Irrigation Works Exploitation One-Member Limited Liability Company requested the Provincial Military Command to harvest aquaculture products. aquaculture and relocation of related machinery and tools within the lake bed before December 31, 2023. Thereby, the Company handed over the site to the construction unit on schedule according to the decision of the People’s Committee of Dong Nai province.

The main types of dead fish are sesame, tilapia, and driftwood.

Project to renovate and repair Song May lake, Trang Bom district, invested by Dong Nai Irrigation Works Exploitation One-Member Limited Liability Company, approved in Decision No. 137/QD-SKHDT dated November 24, 2022. The project will start construction in early 2024, with an implementation period of 15 months from the start date.

Song May Lake has an area of ​​more than 300 hectares, is an irrigation water reservoir for Trang Bom district and Vinh Cuu district. Since 1994, Dong Nai province authorities assigned the Provincial Military Command to cultivate aquaculture on the water surface area.
