Scientists have explained the mysterious obesity epidemic that began in the 1930s.

Publika.az reports that according to the results of the study published in the “Science Advanced” magazine, the reason for this may be the negative effect of social factors on the human psyche and his own overeating.

According to Professor Emeritus Thorkild Sorensen of the University of Copenhagen, humans are evolutionarily hardwired to cooperate in order to obtain food. If social interaction is difficult, it causes a fear of starvation and causes the body to store excess fat as a defense.

Thus, there is a strong link between obesity and the social environment through the interaction of brain and adipose tissue. Various social problems become mental problems that trigger defense mechanisms. This is confirmed by the results of some studies, which show that the human body tends to store excess fat when there is no belief that there will be enough food.

Sorensen notes that obese people gain more weight in response to negative attitudes toward them. Obesity prejudice, stigma, and accompanying discrimination contribute to the crisis.
