Publika.az Sergey Markov, director of the Institute of Political Studies, told journalists about this.
The political scientist said: “On behalf of Azerbaijan’s many friends in Russia, I offer my deepest condolences to the people of Azerbaijan and to the families of people of all nationalities who died in those tragic January days. We all understand that this was the downfall of the Soviet Union. These tragic events showed the huge price that the people paid for the irresponsibility of the politicians. Responsibility before the people and making wise decisions is the main distinguishing feature of a political leader. “Mikhail Gorbachev and other politicians of that time are responsible for the events of January 20, 1990.”
He noted that January 20, 1990 was the beginning of great tragedies, which later turned into the First Karabakh War, in which hundreds and thousands of people died.
“Thanks to National Leader Heydar Aliyev, Azerbaijan managed to get out of the crisis situation and step on the path of progress. “The whole world is amazed at the brilliant victory of Azerbaijan, which returned all of Karabakh and successfully carried out restoration work in the territories freed from occupation,” said Markov.
