According to Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky, Russia’s deliberate cyber attacks are targeted and are directed against the security and stability of the Czech Republic, MTI reported. The Czech minister came to this conclusion after receiving a report that a cyber attack was carried out against several institutions by exploiting previously unknown weak points in Microsoft Outlook.

Minister of the Interior Vit Rakusan drew attention to the fact that Russian cyber attacks and computer espionage have been on the rise for some time, dozens of such attacks against the infrastructure have been detected.

According to Jan Lipovsky, the method and focus of the attacks resemble the activities of APT28, a group linked to Russian military intelligence. According to the minister, there is no doubt about the involvement of the Russian military intelligence (GRU).

According to the statement, state authorities and the energy sector were attacked.

Vit Rakusan, after meeting his German counterpart Nancy Faeser on Friday, told reporters that despite the increasing number of attacks, the Czech Republic is closely monitoring potential targets and exchanging information with Germany on a daily basis. Most of the threats are not known to the general public and are removed at an early stage.

Both Rakusan and Nancy Faeser confirmed that the cyber attacks were orchestrated by Russian military intelligence. According to the German Minister of the Interior, the attacks began in 2022 and are also directed against German military companies and the space industry.

According to Rakusan, the departments and systems of the Czech Ministry of the Interior are attacked on a daily basis by various attacks.
