I love art very much, but unfortunately I practiced drawing a lot but couldn’t draw. I was extremely bad at drawing while my grandfather was a first-generation artist at the Indochina College of Fine Arts. I’m very proud of that.
Luckily, Tep’s great-grandson’s generation was extremely good at drawing. I learned to draw since I was 4 years old. At that age, I usually can’t sit and concentrate, but instead of the prescribed 25 minutes, I passionately sat in 2-3 consecutive classes. Later, in France, I took a children’s drawing class at the d’Orsay Museum (Paris)… Well, it’s also called “reparing bullets” for my mother.
I always learn new things. Maybe I’m not good at it, but I still study because I like it. When aiming to create beauty, life will be more meaningful, because that beauty is not only for you but also inspires those around you.

– You rarely mention your mother, and the lack of a mother’s role doesn’t seem to have any impact on your very fulfilling life and career?
The situation of divorced parents is also special compared to the 70s and 80s of the last century. I live with my father so I have a lot of influence from my father and grandmother. My grandmother is also very small, I look a lot like my grandmother. I’m not as pretty as my mother.
My mother is a Hanoi woman of Hue origin with red lips and rosy cheeks, and I am unlucky and thin… My grandmother is extremely meticulous. At that time, every house in Hanoi was poor, but as the saying goes, “If you’re hungry, you’ll be clean and ragged,” everything in her house was always clean and tidy.
Her blouses are always pure white and she sews beautiful, pure white linen for Bong. That’s why everyone teased Hong Nhung when she first started her career. And I admit that I’m stylish. Because that is one of the characteristics of women, why not be stylish?
When I met Trinh Cong Son, he was also very “cool”, also very artistic and loved beauty. So Hong Nhung is even more inspired to beautify herself every day. Women today are very important about that, beautifying themselves every time they wake up also creates inspiration for the day. Working also feels less difficult when I feel beautiful.

– How do you educate your children about femininity and gender equality?
Nowadays, children go to school and are fully educated about gender equality. Children also have a lot of information – it can be said that there is a surplus of crisis. The problem is what you choose. Fortunately, Tom and Tep are both quite mature for their age.
By now, children naturally understand the correct values in life, basically knowing what is good – bad, right – wrong. There is certainly no division or preference for men over women like in the past.
