Benghazi, November 19, 2023 (Al Anbaa Libya) – The head of the Sports Affairs Department of the Police Sports Union, Brigadier General Al Mabrouk Al Farsi, said that the Union is striving to raise the level of members and workers in its departments and directorates, noting that they are currently working to organize a sports competition in memory of the martyrs of the city of Derna.
Al-Farsi added, in exclusive statements to the Libyan newspaper Al-Anbaa, that the Sports Affairs Department continues to work on organizing and coordinating sporting events to achieve this purpose.
He explained that the department plans in the coming days to organize various competitions and intensive training to ensure that this is translated into the results of its teams and departments.
He pointed out that the branch was established in 2012 pursuant to the decision of the Minister of the Interior of the National Transitional Council, as the Union began organizing and coordinating competitions at the level of departments, directorates and agencies affiliated with the Ministry of Interior.
Al-Farsi confirmed that the department participated in many sporting events, as it organized competitions in individual games, and its most prominent participations were in chess and physical strength games. It also participated in special football leagues, such as the Al-Sabri Al-Zein League, which was held in the city of Benghazi. The federation’s team ranks first.
The head of the Sports Affairs Department at the Police Sports Federation indicated that as a result of the devastating hurricane that struck the country last September, the competition was halted in mourning for the souls of the martyrs of Derna and the cities of the Green Mountain, in addition to his participation and supervision in the year 2022 of the physical strength championship.
Al-Farsi added that next December will witness the organization of a major physical strength competition, and that the Sports Affairs Department, the Sports Federation, has divided the regions according to its plan, as the directorates and agencies of the Green Mountain, Benghazi, and the oases will participate in this forum, which will bear the name of the martyrs of the city of Derna.
He stressed that the first competition will be a distance of 5 kilometers, and then a series of sporting activities will begin in each of the targeted areas according to the Sports Federation’s plan.
Regarding the plan of the Sports Federation at the Ministry of Interior, Al-Farsi said that the department will conduct intensive training courses in the areas of awareness of the dangers of drugs and psychotropic substances, targeting all elements in the agencies, directorates, and administration affiliated with the Ministry of Interior.
He stressed that this awareness campaign comes within the framework of combating negative and destructive phenomena, and preparing highly skilled security personnel.
Al-Farsi concluded his speech by praising the role of the Minister of Interior in the Libyan government, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior and the head of the Sports Federation Department for the support provided to the Sports Federation. (Libyan News – Benghazi) Abdel Salam Shaqlaban
