Vienna (OTS) The ORF magazine “Heimat Fremde Heimat” – presented by Ajda Sticker – will deal with the topic of craftsmanship on Sunday, February 25, 2024 at 1:35 p.m. on ORF 2:

“Even as a child, I enjoyed collecting dead animals and observing the decomposition process,” says taxidermist Mirjana Pavlović from the Natural History Museum in Vienna. A special interest and dexterity is the basic requirement for every craftsman and craftsman to be successful. “But it’s not enough to produce a decent product – today you have to be able to sell your cosmos to the customer as an overall experience,” reports shoemaker Markus Scheer, who is now in the seventh generation to run his traditional business. Although many handmade products are experiencing a renaissance today, the way they are manufactured has surprisingly remained unchanged despite digitalization. A visit to one of the last horn comb makers in Austria proves that consumers’ desire for sustainability is growing. What do all of these traditional jobs have in common? That more and more migrants work as apprentices to ensure the continued existence of individual companies. Nostalgia or necessity? Čedomira Schlapper reports.
