Zvonimir Boban, the former football player of “Milan” and the Croatian national team, has announced his resignation from the position of the head of the UEFA football department.
Publika.az reports that the legend’s decision is related to his opposition to amendments to UEFA’s statutes that would allow the current president of the organization, Aleksander Ceferi, to remain in office for a fourth term – until 2031.
“I spoke with the UEFA president about the problem that arose at the last meeting of the UEFA Executive Committee in Hamburg. The proposal is to amend UEFA’s constitution to allow Ceferi to stand as a candidate at the next congress to be held in Paris on February 8.
After I expressed my great concern and complete disagreement with the method and the proposal itself, President Ceferin replied that there was no legal or moral problem for him. This, in my opinion, is a disaster.”
It should be noted that Ceferin was last elected UEFA president for 4 years in 2023. The next elections in the institution should take place in 2027.
