Help sometimes comes from an unexpected source. Now that YouTuber Acid has been sentenced for his controversial video about the Sanda Dia trial, Frank ‘Zillion’ Verstraeten offers to assist him. “I am willing to pay his fines,” he said on Facebook.

Let’s recap: Acid – né Nathan Vandergunst – was sentenced this morning to a three-month suspended prison sentence and must pay a fine of 800 euros and provisional compensation of 20,000 euros. He was found guilty of harassment after he revealed the names of several Reuzegommers in a video last year.

Both the trial and the sentence caused quite a stir in Flanders. Acid himself was also affected this morning, now that “he has a criminal record and the Reuzegommers do not.” Opinions vary online. Just joined the discussion: entrepreneur Frank Verstraeten, once the manager of the infamous Zillion disco, took to Facebook to ask for Acid’s number.

“I want to pay his fine(s),” he sounds convinced. “You can’t do this to him.” He does throw in a small disclaimer: “Difficult to reach at the moment. Everything is blocked from the internet, I have to communicate via a VPN.” To be continued, no doubt. (dewo)
