Five new species of vipers were discovered in Colombia

Good news for science was announced after the discovery of five new species of viperswhich live in the rainforests of Colombia and Ecuador.

This was thanks to the investigative work of the Khamai Foundation, which established these new classes of eyelash vipers. A work that took approximately ten years and it was determined that these are located in the jungles of Darién, the Central Mountain Range and on the border of Colombia with Ecuador.

This discovery occurred in an unusual way, when the Ecuadorian biologist Lucas Bustamante He was bitten by a snake, he had thought it was a common eyelash viper, but to his surprise, he realized that it was a little different from the ones he normally knew.

This incident caused a team of experts, which included Bustamante himself, to begin the research work that finally led to the discovery of these new species named: Rahim’s, Hussain’s, Shah’s, Klebba’s and Khwarg’s.

Although the discovery occurred 10 years agobiologists worked to determine, through various studies, that they were not already existing species.

These vipers are characterized by beautiful and striking colors, bright eyes and peculiar shapes on their scalesestimate various particularities greater than scientists would have imagined.
